Sherwood's original blocks are still the civic center: City Hall, Cannery Square, the arts center and the park along Cedar Creek all sit within a short walk of each other, and that walkable core shapes how a moving truck gets in and out.
Butterfield Moving is a family-owned mover based in Hillsboro. Patrick Butterfield owns it, picks up the phone himself and does the in-home walk-throughs, and Aiden, the next generation of the family, is out on the crews. We move households, apartments and small offices in Sherwood by the hour, with wrapping, padding and furniture disassembly built into the rate.
Have your address and a date or two in mind when you call. On the original Old Town blocks, the first thing we look at is the curb in front of your door.

Six Reasons Our Crews Fit Sherwood
Old Town Curb Planning
For the original blocks, the truck spot is chosen during the call or walk-through before move day.
Festival-Week Timing
For a house on the blocks around City Hall, we suggest a date earlier in the week or the week after the July festival.
Tools on the Truck
Taking apart and rebuilding beds, tables, and flat-pack pieces is billed as ordinary crew time.
Edge-of-Town Addresses
Streets on the south side and the western edge bill on the same hourly card as Old Town.
Greenway-Side Homes
A front door that opens onto a trail or park gets its walking distance built into the plan.
Heritage-Block Carries
Near the Park Street heritage center, the walk-through checks for low limbs over the curb and the straightest path to the door.
Three Local Facts That Decide How Your Sherwood Move Goes
Fact 1: The blocks Smockville laid out around the railroad
The oldest part of Sherwood is the grid J.C. and Mary Ellen Smock planned around the railroad tracks in the late 1800s; today, the Old Town blocks around City Hall on SW Pine Street. Those streets were drawn for a town that counted 350 people in 1911. Lots are older; some blocks have mature street trees; and curb space near the plazas is shared with shops and the arts center. A move here is planned around where the truck can stand and how far the crew walks from it.
Fact 2: Downtown runs on a public calendar
Old Town is where Sherwood gathers. The Robin Hood Festival, held since 1954, comes to the blocks around City Hall each July. There is a Saturday market in season, and the city's Music on the Green concerts fill Wednesday evenings in July and early August at Stella Olsen Memorial Park. Before you pick a date, look at the city and Old Town event listings for your street, then tell us what you find. We can shift the start time, pick a different day, or plan the truck position around an event where possible.
Fact 3: A creek greenway threads through town
The Cedar Creek greenway corridor links Old Town and Stella Olsen Park, and a finished two-mile trail segment follows it from the park to Highway 99W at Meinecke Parkway, with boardwalks over wetland along the way. A home that faces the greenway or a park can be a pleasant walk from the trail and a long walk from the nearest place a truck can park. Tell us whether your front door opens onto a street or a path, and we will measure the carry from where the truck can stop.

How a Butterfield Sherwood Move Runs
A phone call that places your street
Patrick asks which block you are on, where a truck could park, and whether anything is scheduled nearby that week. A few minutes on the phone tells us whether a walk-through is worth scheduling.
A walk-through that opens the garage
On a bigger house, he tours every room, looks in the garage and storage spaces, checks the curb, and sizes the crew from what he sees.
Packing days ahead, if you want them
A packing crew can arrive ahead of move day at the per-packer rate, so the moving crew walks in to taped, labeled boxes.
Protection before the first lift
The crew lays floor runners along the route and fits jamb guards on each doorway the furniture will pass.
Loaded in the order you will need it
The crew plans the load so the bed frames ride nearest the door, which lets them be rebuilt before the rest of the house comes off the truck.
Both addresses checked before sign-off
We look through the empty rooms at the old place and confirm each piece landed in the right room at the new one. The invoice is settled on completion.

Old Town Dates, Planned Ahead
These are planning examples built from Sherwood's own streets and seasons, the way we would lay out each job.
An Old Town house during Robin Hood Festival week
Each July the festival centers on the blocks around City Hall, and its Saturday parade starts near 99W and winds into Old Town. For a house on those blocks, we would suggest moving earlier in the week or the week after. If festival weekend is the only option, we would confirm that year's schedule with you, aim for an early Friday load, and keep the truck clear of the parade route where possible.
A Wednesday evening move near Stella Olsen Memorial Park
Say the only free evening is a Wednesday in July, and the house is a few doors from the park on SW Washington Street, where the city's concerts run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. We would ask whether the job can start in the morning instead. If it has to be that evening, we would plan to have the truck loaded and moving before the 6:30 start, and the estimate would show the after-7 PM rate for any time past 7.
A house on the Park Street blocks near the heritage center
The streets by the Sherwood Heritage Center hold some of the town's oldest landmarks, including the Morback House, finished in 1892, and two tulip trees planted in 1895 near the end of Park Street. On a walk-through here, Patrick would look for low limbs over the curb, pick the side of the street with the straightest path to the door, and time the carry with the crew size in mind.

Sherwood Conditions That Shape Every Move
A splash fountain beside City Hall
Cannery Square, the brick-paved plaza next to City Hall on SW Pine Street, runs its splash fountain from 9 AM to 9 PM from the Friday of Memorial Day weekend through September 30. If your address is within sight of it, think about how busy that sidewalk gets on a warm afternoon. We can assign a crew member to the sidewalk to guide the truck as it backs in.
One stretch of Pine Street, many uses
City Hall, Cannery Square, Robin Hood Plaza and the 16,000-square-foot Sherwood Center for the Arts, completed in 2015, all cluster along the Pine Street blocks. For a home or business there, ask where a truck may stop and for how long, and we will factor that into the crew plan during the walk-through.
An Old Town plan now in effect
City Council adopted a five-year Old Town Strategic Plan on May 19, 2026, aimed at the district's public spaces, businesses and walkability. Projects that come out of a plan like this can change curb space over time, so for an Old Town move it is worth asking the city whether any work is scheduled on your block.
Apartments inside the walkable core
Old Town includes apartment living right beside its public spaces, such as Cannery Row on SW Highland Drive, near Cannery Square and Stella Olsen Memorial Park. Leasing offices set their own rules for move hours and insurance paperwork, so ask for them in writing and send them to us before the date is locked.
A city of about 4.5 square miles
Sherwood's city limits cover about 4.5 square miles, so a move from one Sherwood street to another is short on the road. For those moves, the 3-hour minimum matters more than the drive.

Plazas, Greenways and Heritage Blocks: Our Sherwood Methods
Working a sidewalk beside a plaza
Near Cannery Square and the park, neighbors may be using the sidewalk between the truck and your door. Where possible, we set pads and dollies beside the truck and wait for a gap before a long piece crosses the walk.
Keeping a short in-town move short
When both addresses are inside Sherwood, the drive is a small share of the bill. Boxes taped and stacked, beds already stripped and a clear path to the door are what keep an in-town job close to the 3-hour minimum, and packers can handle the boxes a day ahead if you would rather not.
Long carries on greenway-facing lots
A longer walk from the truck adds time, and the estimate should show it. On these homes, we can bring extra runners for the path, use dollies where the ground is paved, and plan the crew size so nobody makes that walk alone with a heavy piece.
Old Town storefronts and small offices
A shop or office near Pine Street can move after closing time, so customers are not stepping around dollies. Desks are broken down and reassembled at the new space; your staff or IT vendor handles unplugging and reconnecting computers, and we move the equipment.
Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims
Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan. A carton our packers filled gives a claim more to stand on, since the padding inside it is ours to document. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.

Sherwood Moving Questions
What will our Sherwood move cost?
The hourly card above sets the price, and your hours depend on the inventory, the parking at both ends, and the travel time from our yard. A studio near Old Town and a large house with a packed garage sit at opposite ends of that range, which is why larger homes get a free walk-through before any number is quoted.
Do you offer storage between houses?
No. We do not offer storage. If your closing dates leave a gap, a local self-storage company is the right place to ask.
When should we reserve our Sherwood date?
One to two weeks of notice covers most local moves; a big house or a summer date deserves a longer runway. Nothing is paid up front, and a slipped closing can shift the booking at no charge as long as we hear about it that far ahead.
Can you come the same day?
For a smaller job, about three times out of four, if you call before noon.
Our street is new and does not show up on a map app yet. Can you still find it?
Yes. Send us the nearest cross streets or a pin from the builder, and let us know if the sidewalk or driveway is still unfinished so the crew knows where to park the truck.
Our place sits on a bigger lot in the Brookman area. What should Patrick know?
The Brookman area, between the south city limits and Brookman Road east of Highway 99W, still holds rural residential properties. Tell Patrick how long the driveway is, whether it is paved, and where a truck can turn around, and he can size the crew from those answers.
Can we load near Cannery Square on a Saturday morning?
A Saturday market runs in Cannery Square in season. While it is running, we can start the load early or move the job to a weekday.
We rented our own truck. Can you just load it?
Yes. A crew fills the rented box with pads and straps to help keep the load steady on the road, and we can meet it at the other end if you want help unloading.
