Mover carrying a wrapped piece up the truck ramp on a residential street, move in Gladstone

A Gladstone move gets planned around the street as carefully as the house. The city fits into about 2.48 square miles where the Clackamas River meets the Willamette. Portland Avenue is the main street and the line between east and west Gladstone, and the grounds that hosted the third-largest permanent Chautauqua assembly in the country still host a camp meeting each July.

The Butterfields run Butterfield Moving out of Hillsboro. Patrick Butterfield picks up the phone and prices each job, and Aiden, his son, carries furniture alongside the crew. Gladstone is about 45 minutes from our yard, so the soonest we book a Gladstone crew is the following morning.

Gladstone's traffic code sets clear limits on where a truck can stand and for how long. We plan around those limits before the date is set, so the crew spends the day carrying furniture instead of moving the truck.

The Gladstone Rules Worth Knowing Before Moving Day

01

Number 1: the weight rule, and why it misses our trucks

Gladstone limits where trucks heavy enough to owe Oregon's motor carrier highway tax may park on a residential street. That tax applies to vehicles over 26,000 pounds. Our trucks are rated at 25,999 pounds, just under that threshold, and we schedule residential loads between 7 AM and 7 PM either way. The hours that do shape the day are the ones on our own card: the standard column runs to 7 PM, and if a big house could push the unload past it, we can add a mover or start earlier. The estimate shows the cost of each choice.

02

Number 2: 30 minutes in an alley or loading zone

Gladstone allows a vehicle in an alley for quick loading or unloading, with a 30-minute limit in a row. A loading zone with no posted time limit carries the same 30-minute cap. A household load takes hours, so the alley works for a short stop, like dropping off cartons before pack day or picking up a few chairs. The truck for the main load will likely need to stand on the street. If your back door opens onto an alley, mention it early so we can plan the carry from the front or split the job into a quick alley stop and a longer load at the curb.

03

Number 3: 24 hours or 72 hours at the curb

A vehicle can stay on a public street in Gladstone for 72 hours in a noncommercial zone and 24 hours in a commercial zone. That limit matters most when you rent your own truck or trailer and plan to fill it over a weekend. At a house, the 72-hour limit covers a weekend; in a commercial zone, the 24-hour cap means a rental parked on Friday evening has to be gone by Saturday evening. Our loading crew can fill a rental in one block of hours, so it pulls away well inside the limit and you drive it to the new place yourself.

How We Run a Gladstone Move, Call to Sign-Off

01

Street, zone and inventory

Patrick takes both addresses, asks whether there is an alley behind either one, and lists the large pieces. A small move can be priced during that conversation.

02

A free visit for bigger homes

For a larger house, Patrick drives out at no charge. He finds a legal spot for the truck, measures the narrowest doorway on the carry, and notes which pieces need to come apart.

03

Packing help if you want it

Box everything yourself, book packers for the fragile rooms, or have the whole house packed. Cartons we bring but leave unopened are not billed, and your own boxes are welcome.

04

Protection in place

Before carrying starts, runners protect the floors along the route out, and jamb guards shield the door frames along the path.

05

Padded, strapped and placed

Pads wrap the furniture and straps hold the load in place on the road. Once unloaded, the crew sets each piece in the room you name and puts back together anything that was taken apart.

06

A final walk, then the bill

Before the truck departs, walk the rooms with the movers and look over each piece. Payment comes after the work is done, with no deposit up front.

Gladstone Roads, Rules and July Crowds

McLoughlin on the west side, I-205 on the east edge

Highway 99E, McLoughlin Boulevard, runs north and south through western Gladstone. I-205 runs along the eastern edge; the freeway reached Gladstone in late 1972. Exit 11 is signed for 82nd Drive and Gladstone, and exit 9 at Highway 99E lists Gladstone along with downtown Oregon City. Share the nearest cross street when you book, so the drive line on the estimate reflects the right end of town.

Camp meeting week at Gladstone Park

The Gladstone Park Conference Center at 19800 Oatfield Road, just off I-205, hosts a camp meeting every July; the 2027 dates are July 20 to 24. For a move near Oatfield Road that week, we can plan the truck route around the grounds, or discuss a different date.

Watermain work in the Sherwood Forest area

Phase 2 of the watermain replacement in the Sherwood Forest area is scheduled to begin in mid-2027, with notices sent to affected homes. If a notice lands in your mailbox, send us a photo so the date and truck spot can work around it.

Mailboxes at the curb

Gladstone's code requires vehicles to remain 10 feet from a private mailbox during delivery hours. On a block where mailboxes line the curb, we can set the truck between them or wait until the mail carrier has passed.

Butterfield Practices Built for Gladstone Homes

Long carries from the entrance of a court

When the truck parks at the entrance of a court, the crew uses dollies for boxes and lays extra runners where the path crosses a walkway or porch. A third mover can keep the hours down on a long walk, because the extra pair of hands shortens every trip.

When a piece is wider than the door

Before a crew takes a bed frame, crib or sectional apart, it photographs the piece and bags the hardware with a label. If an inch or two is still missing, we can lift interior doors off their hinges and rehang them once the piece is through.

A parent moving to a smaller place

Pieces headed to different relatives can ride on the same truck and appear on one bill, and a lift chair or walker travels with the rest.

Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims

Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.

Gladstone Plans for a House, an Office and a Family

A house off Webster Road to an apartment in Oregon City

At the walk-through, Patrick decides whether the driveway or the street makes the better truck spot and measures the tightest turn inside the house against the largest pieces. The apartment end is timed to the unload window the building sets, and the crew brings the pieces for the smallest rooms off the truck last.

A Portland Avenue office moving after closing

The crew arrives after 7 PM, once the office has closed, and the job runs on the evening column: $195.20 an hour for two movers. File cabinets and shelving go on the truck first. Your staff unplugs the computers; we carry them.

A Milwaukie family moving to a house near Max Patterson Park

A packer can box the kitchen on Friday, and the move itself runs Saturday morning so the unload wraps up by midafternoon.

Gladstone Moving Questions

How much will our Gladstone move cost?

The standard hourly price is $150.35 for a two-person crew and truck, $206.75 for three people, and $263.15 for four, and the clock runs at least 3 hours. The final number depends on the volume of belongings, the walk from the door to the truck at both homes, and travel time.

Can a crew come tomorrow?

Next day is the earliest we book for Gladstone. Call early in the day, and Patrick can tell you whether a crew and truck are open.

When should we reserve our date?

One to two weeks of notice covers most local moves. Bigger homes and June, July or August dates need a longer runway. With one to two weeks' warning, a date change costs nothing.

Can you store our furniture between homes?

No. We do not offer storage. A storage company near Gladstone can hold your things, and we set the moving day around your new date.

Our new building has a signed loading zone out front. Can the truck sit there all day?

Not for the whole job. During the hours posted on the sign, Gladstone's code lets a vehicle stand in the zone only while it is loading or unloading without delay. Read us the sign on the call, and Patrick can say whether the zone or a spot along the street suits the truck.

Do you sell boxes?

We do. Cartons run $6.30 for small, $7.45 for medium, and $9.45 for large. Wardrobe cartons are $31.55. A TV box is rented at $55.85 or purchased at $199.65.

What should we do before the crew arrives?

Unplug and defrost the freezer the day before, set aside medicine, keys, and papers you plan to carry yourself, and move cars out of the driveway so the truck can get close.
