Two movers carrying a wrapped piece up a ramp outside a brick house, move in McMinnville

A McMinnville move starts with the road to your door. The Yamhill County seat reaches from Third Street downtown out to Hill Road on the west side and across the South Yamhill River to Three Mile Lane, and we plan each approach before moving day.

Butterfield Moving is part of the Butterfield family, and our trucks leave each morning from a yard in Hillsboro, about 50 minutes north of McMinnville. Patrick Butterfield prices the jobs himself, and his son Aiden is part of the crew. Because of that drive, we schedule McMinnville moves for the next day or later.

Give us both addresses and your largest furniture. We will tell you how the truck gets in, the crew size, and about how long it should run.

Four McMinnville Specifics Built Into Our Plans

Across the South Yamhill

Three Mile Lane addresses are past a bridge rebuilt to be 13 feet wider for larger trucks.

Fox Ridge Road Area Plan

Addresses west of Hill Road checked against current road access.

Beyond City Limits

Lafayette, Carlton and rural Yamhill County homes use the same hourly card as town addresses.

Third Street Storefronts

Downtown shops and offices can move on a weekend to keep weekday hours open.

Three McMinnville Places Where the Moving Plan Starts Early

01

Place 1: The rebuilt OR 18 Spur bridge

The OR 18 Spur bridge carries traffic over the South Yamhill River to Three Mile Lane. The 1951 bridge it replaced was 35 feet wide. The new span, open since fall 2023, is 48 feet wide and was built to accommodate larger trucks, as well as people on foot and on bikes. For a southeast-side move, a loaded moving truck now crosses on a deck 13 feet wider than before, and the estimate for those addresses is built on that crossing.

02

Place 2: Inside the Three Mile Lane Area Plan

On the southeast side, the Three Mile Lane Area Plan was adopted on Nov. 8, 2022. It covers about 1,300 acres inside city limits on both sides of Highway 18 and sets aside room for new residential neighborhoods. The plan also proposes a rebuilt Three Mile Lane interchange and a new controlled intersection at Cirrus Avenue; both are planned, not built. If a builder is still finishing your home in that area, share the timeline with us, and we can plan the date around it.

03

Place 3: West of Hill Road

On the west side of the city, the Fox Ridge Road Area Plan was adopted on Feb. 27, 2024. It covers about 230 acres west of Hill Road, along parts of Fox Ridge Road and Hill Road, and is planned mostly for housing, with a school district site set aside for a future high school. For an address on or off Hill Road, Patrick asks on the first call how the driveway meets the road and where a moving truck can stop, and we confirm access again close to the date.

McMinnville Move Plans, Drawn Up Before the Truck Rolls

These are sample plans, built the way Patrick would lay them out on an estimate call.

A house by Joe Dancer Park to a home near SE Stratus Avenue

Both addresses sit on the southeast side of McMinnville, so the drive between them is short and most of the hours go to carrying. Runners protect the floors at the new house from the first trip in.

A Beaverton apartment arriving in downtown McMinnville

The truck loads in Beaverton and heads south, so there are two legs of driving in the day, and both sit inside the billed hours at the crew's rate. The unload time is set so the crew is not racing the drive back north.

A three-bedroom near Michelbook downsizing to a smaller place in Lafayette

A walk-through comes first, marking each piece as going to Lafayette or staying behind, so the crew size matches the smaller load. At the new place, the furniture is set where you point. Lafayette sits just east of 99W, so little of the day is spent driving.

The McMinnville Streets and Landmarks We Check Before a Date

Third Street through downtown

East Third Street is the main street through McMinnville's downtown core, and its west end is where William T. Newby built a grist mill in 1853. Apartments and storefronts on busy blocks call for a loading plan settled ahead of time. Ask the landlord or building manager where movers may unload, and let us know before the date so the crew size matches the load.

The streets around Linfield University

Linfield University covers nearly 200 acres and has more than 60 facilities, and streets near campus are home to their own residents. With campus buildings and parked cars close by, the truck may not fit right at your door. The walk-through or the estimate call settles where it stops and how far the crew carries.

Near Willamette Valley Medical Center

The hospital sits on SE Stratus Avenue on the southeast side of town. For an address on nearby streets, we can position the truck so driveways and turns stay open for traffic heading to and from the medical center.

Joe Dancer Park on SE Brooks Street

Joe Dancer Park is a 100-acre sports complex and community park, with the Yamhill River along its south and east sides. When the fields are busy, nearby street parking can fill up, so for a home close to the park, tell us whether the driveway can accommodate the truck.

Neighborhood school blocks

Buel, Grandhaven, Memorial, Newby, Wascher and Willamette elementary schools, along with Duniway and Patton middle schools, sit near homes. If your street is near one, a weekday crew can arrive after morning drop-off so the truck is not backing in beside a school line.

How a McMinnville Job Runs

01

The first conversation

Patrick takes both addresses, how close a truck can get at each, the biggest furniture, and your target date. A small move can get its price right then.

02

Patrick on site for bigger homes

A larger house earns a free visit. Patrick checks the truck position, paces the carry, and flags the furniture that must be dismantled, then sends a plan with crew count, likely hours, and travel.

03

Packing on its own day

If you want help packing, a packer can come the day before the truck. Your own boxes are welcome, and any carton of ours that stays sealed stays off the invoice.

04

Protected, wrapped and set in place

Floor runners cover the walking path and jamb guards wrap each doorway on the route while the furniture still stands in its rooms. For the ride, furniture gets blankets and straps. At the new home, beds go together first, then the rest lands in the room you choose.

05

A final lap of the rooms

Before the truck heads back north, walk the new place with the crew and flag anything that needs shifting or checking.

Questions We Hear About Moving in McMinnville

How much will a McMinnville move cost?

Expect $150.35 per hour for two movers with the truck, or $263.15 per hour for four movers with the truck, with a 3-hour minimum. Your inventory and the carry distance at each address set the final total.

We are leaving McMinnville for the coast. Is that on the hourly card?

No. A coast move is priced in a written quote based on mileage and weight. Tell Patrick the coast address, and he sends the quote back.

Can the truck drop a few pieces with family in Carlton on the way?

Yes. A second stop is added to the same bill, and when both drop-offs occur on the same day, a single 3-hour minimum covers the whole job. Tell Patrick which pieces go where so they load in the right order.

How much notice should we give for a move date?

One to two weeks of notice covers most local moves. Large homes and summer dates call for booking further ahead.

Our new place is not ready yet. Can you hold our furniture?

No. We do not offer storage. A storage company in McMinnville can hold your things, and we plan the moving day around your new date.

Our Third Street shop can close on a Saturday or a Sunday. Which costs less?

Saturday. Daytime hours on a Saturday bill at the standard rate, $150.35 an hour for two movers, while a Sunday runs on the evening column at $195.20.

How do we pay, and when?

By card, check, or cash, once the crew has finished and you have looked over the rooms. Nothing is collected ahead of the move.

Our house near Linfield has a narrow front walk. Will furniture fit?

Measure the tightest spot on the path, including the front door and any gate, and send the numbers along with your list. Wide pieces can come apart and go back together inside at the hourly rate.

Crew Techniques for a McMinnville Day

Cartons that stack for a longer drive

Boxes packed full to the top and taped flat hold their shape under the weight above them over a longer drive. Our packers can fill gaps with paper to keep contents from shifting, keep heavy books in small cartons, and mark each box on two sides with the room it belongs in.

Taking apart what will not turn a corner

A bunk bed, a tall hutch, or a dining table that cannot make a hallway turn comes apart inside the house. A photo of each joint comes first, the fasteners go into a labeled bag fixed to the largest part, and the piece goes back together in the room where it will stand.

Downsizing at the pace of the person moving

A parent leaving a family home sets the tempo. Lift chairs, walkers and other mobility equipment get careful handling, and the favorite chair can come off the truck first. Relatives who live elsewhere can work out the plan with Patrick by phone.

Weekend moves for downtown offices

A small office or shop near Third Street can move on a Saturday or Sunday. Computers are unplugged and reconnected by whoever manages your IT.

Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims

Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan, and it pays little for a light but costly item. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.
