Movers wheeling furniture to a truck with Mount Hood in the distance, move in Sandy

A Sandy move can start downtown, on a street by a trailhead, or in a village east of town, and each start changes the plan. We sort out those details before any furniture is wrapped.

Butterfield Moving is family-owned and based in Hillsboro. Patrick Butterfield builds each estimate, and Aiden, his son, is one of the movers. Our yard is a 60- to 65-minute drive from Sandy, so we book Sandy work starting the following day at the earliest.

Have a few details ready: how many steps sit between the door and the truck, the heaviest things you own, and whether friends are coming to help. That is enough to size the crew before you pick a date.

Three Answers to Settle Before a Sandy Move

A Sandy move can start or end well past the city limits, and the town itself sits on a highway. Three answers shape the plan.

01

Answer 1: Where helpers park near the highway pair

U.S. Route 26 runs through the middle of Sandy as two downtown streets, Pioneer Boulevard and Proctor Boulevard. Homes and businesses on the downtown blocks face one of the two highway streets or a cross street. The city owns a free, untimed lot behind the buildings on the south side of Pioneer Boulevard, between Scales and Bruns avenues, entered from Bruns. Friends helping with a downtown move can park there all day, which keeps the space near your door open for the truck.

02

Answer 2: Hourly card or written quote for the Villages

Brightwood, Welches, Wemme, Zigzag and Rhododendron are unincorporated communities along US 26 east of Sandy, and the city runs the Hoodland Public Library on E Welches Road. Local moves are billed by the hour, and longer moves within Oregon are priced in a written quote based on mileage and weight. For a Village pickup or delivery, Patrick tells you which applies before you book, so the pricing method is settled before moving day.

03

Answer 3: Whether the streets near a newer home are still filling in

Bornstedt Park on Pine Avenue has a splash pad and community garden boxes, and its second phase depends on future housing around it. If you are buying a home in that part of town, ask the seller or builder whether lots on your street are still to be built, and pass the answer along. We can check the route in for equipment or closed lanes in the week before the move, and the crew can cover fresh paint with jamb guards on the way through.

Five Sandy Facts That Change a Moving Plan

The SAM transit center on Hoffman Street

Sandy Area Metro buses use a transit center on Hoffman Street, between Proctor and Pioneer boulevards. For a move on that block, we can place the truck away from where buses pull in.

Heritage Square parking

The second city-owned lot fills the middle of the block between Shelley and Meinig avenues, with its main entrance on Shelley Avenue. Some spaces there are timed, so check the signs before a helper leaves a car for the day.

Highway 211 heading south

Oregon Route 211 meets US 26 in Sandy and runs south toward Eagle Creek and Estacada. For a rural home along that road, tell us about the entrance and any gate on the estimate call so the crew arrives with the right plan for the carry.

One school district from Boring to the mountain

The Oregon Trail School District reaches across Boring and Sandy to the Mount Hood area. Sandy High on Bell Street is its only high school, and Welches Elementary and Welches Middle serve the Villages. A family moving between Welches and Sandy stays in the same district, so tell us the first school day at the new address, and we can set the move date ahead of it.

The Tickle Creek Trail between neighborhoods

The 1.8-mile Tickle Creek Trail links the Barlow Ridge and Tickle Creek neighborhoods. For a move near the trail, we can plan the truck's approach around people using it.

Crew Methods for Sandy Homes and Shops

Stockrooms and shop fixtures along US 26

For a store or service shop on the highway, the crew can group stock by shelf and zone so it lands in order at the new space. Light shelving and fixtures come apart and go back up. Forklift work and engineered pallet racking are handled by your own operators or a rack installer.

Furniture for a Sandy listing

For an agent or stager, we collect the staging pieces and set them where the stager wants them. After the sale closes, the crew can clear the rooms again.

Downtown offices moved after closing

An office on Pioneer or Proctor can load out after 7 PM at the evening rate, so the doors stay open through the business day. Filing cabinets can travel with their drawers emptied into labeled boxes, each box marked with the room it goes to in the new space. Your own IT staff handles unplugging and reconnecting computers.

Heirlooms and artwork given extra wrap time

Mirrors and framed art travel upright between padded tiers. Antique finishes get pads before any plastic wrap, and that extra wrapping time is planned into the estimate.

Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims

Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan, because it pays by weight and not by what a piece is worth. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.

Six Steps From Your Call to a Finished Sandy Move

01

Two addresses and the heavy pieces

We ask where each home sits, what the parking looks like, and which items are the heaviest. Smaller moves can get a number on that call.

02

An in-person look at larger homes

For a bigger house, Patrick visits for free, checks where the truck can park and how long the carry is, then sends a written plan with crew size and likely hours.

03

Packing a day ahead, if you want it

Packers can work the day before the truck comes, room by room or for the whole house.

04

Floors and doorways covered

The crew lays runners along the walking route and fits guards on the door jambs before the first piece leaves its room.

05

Padded, tied down and on the highway

Furniture is blanket-wrapped and strapped in the truck. At the new home, beds are rebuilt first, and the rest goes where you direct.

06

A walk through the rooms together

Before the crew leaves, you check the rooms with them and point out anything that needs to be moved or looked at. Payment comes when the job is done.

Sandy Moves Mapped Out on the Estimate Call

Sample plans, written as we might explain them during an estimate.

A Welches house to a home in Deer Pointe

The crew loads in Welches and unloads on Meadow Avenue. Dressers get extra padding for the highway, and the crew can reassemble a crib or bunk bed in the new bedroom.

A Sandy Bluff house to an apartment near the transit center

A parent moving from a house into a smaller downtown apartment sets the pace. A lift chair, walker, or other mobility equipment is wrapped and loaded where it can be reached, so it goes into the apartment early. Hallways and stairwells get runners.

A Gresham rental to a house near Bornstedt Park

Loading runs on the Gresham end, the truck heads east on US 26, and the unload happens at a house near Pine Avenue.

Sandy Moving Questions and Straight Answers

What does a move in Sandy cost?

Two movers and a truck run $150.35 an hour, and three movers run $206.75, with a 3-hour minimum. How much you own and the carry at each door decide the total.

Our new home is on Marcy Street, where the Sandy River Park trail starts. Will trail visitors take the curb?

The trail entrance sits at the end of Marcy Street, and visitor parking for the 127-acre park is in a nearby school lot. We still ask how much curb is in front of your house before we pick the truck spot.

Our lease ends in two days. Can you still help?

Call as early in the day as you can. We do not send crews to Sandy on the day you call, so we look for our next open slot and give you that date right away.

How far ahead should we book?

One to two weeks of notice covers most local moves. Give us more lead time for a big house or a July or August Saturday.

Our closing slipped a week. Could Butterfield store everything for that week?

No. We do not offer storage. A local storage company can hold things for the gap. If the closing slips, call us: moving your date is free with one to two weeks' notice.

Our driveway climbs from the street. Is there a charge for the grade?

No. Local moves carry no elevation surcharge. A steeper or longer carry does take more time, so describe the driveway on the call, and Patrick will build it into the hours.

We plan to pack the books and linens ourselves. Anything to know?

That split works well. Keep the glassware, lamps, and framed pieces for our packers, though: if a box you packed arrives damaged, the claim is harder, since no one can show how its contents were padded.

My mother no longer drives. How can she reach her new Sandy apartment on moving day?

Sandy Area Metro buses ride free inside the city, and SAM Rides offers door-to-door trips on request. Call SAM ahead of time about booking a ride, and she can arrive once the crew has her bed set up.

Can you load the moving container sitting in our driveway?

Yes. Tell us the container's length and whether it sits on a slope, and we will size the crew to it.

We are moving from Sandy to Madras. Is that an hourly move?

A move over the mountain to Central Oregon is long distance within Oregon. It gets a written quote based on mileage and weight.
