NE Alberta Street runs the length of the Alberta Arts District, and the blocks around it fall into more than one Northeast Portland neighborhood. Vernon takes in Alberta Park on the western side, and Concordia runs east toward Fernhill Park. Wherever your address lands along that stretch, the street the district is named for belongs in your moving plan, because a recurring Thursday evening event runs along it.
That evening does not make a move harder. It gives it a deadline, and the day gets built backward from it. The yard is in Hillsboro, about 30 minutes out. We move households here by the hour at the rates published further down this page. Give us the address and the day, and we will say whether the evening reaches you at all.

One Thursday Evening, 15 Blocks of Alberta
Last Thursday is a 15-block community event on NE Alberta between 15th and 30th, 6 to 9 PM, run by a local nonprofit in partnership with the city transportation bureau.
The part that matters to a moving truck is which months those 15 blocks are closed to traffic for it. The street closes on the last Thursday of June, July, and August. Outside those three months, it stays open. If you are weighing a date, we will check it against the current season before you commit to it.
When the closure is on, a truck cannot stand on that stretch of Alberta while it runs. The move finishes before the evening starts, or it happens on another day. Both are workable once the date is on the table, and we say on the call when the hours are tight.

On the Corridor, or a Block Off It
Addresses on Alberta itself
An apartment above a shop or a unit whose door opens onto Alberta between 15th and 30th is on the event roadway. On a closure evening, that door faces a street given over to people on foot, so the load is planned to be done and the truck away before 6 PM.
Addresses one or two streets off it
North and south of the corridor, the blocks are mostly residential, in Vernon or in Concordia, with King sharing the corridor at the 15th Avenue end. Those homes are not on the closed roadway, so the 6 PM deadline that applies at a corridor door does not apply at theirs. What changes there is the hour you can still be working: the day can run past six, and the next line it meets is our own, at 7 PM, where the evening rate starts.
Addresses east of the district
Past NE 30th, the closed blocks end and Concordia keeps going, well clear of the event. A move out there is an ordinary Northeast Portland job on any day of the month.

Choosing the Day, and the Hour It Ends
A date that lands on one of those evenings gives you two clean choices.
Move it a day
The Wednesday or the Friday around it is an ordinary day on Alberta. If your lease, your closing or your buyer allows a one-day shift, that is the simplest version, and nothing else about the plan has to change.
Or start early enough to be finished
Our crews bill by the hour. A two-bedroom that starts at 8 in the morning is off the block well before the evening hour, and a larger house is worth an earlier start still. We size the crew from what you describe on the call, and the expected hours go on the written estimate.
Booking ahead
How much lead time you need depends on the week, so there is no single answer. June, July, and August are the three closure months, and a Thursday date in that stretch is the one worth raising first: call with the date, and we will tell you what is open.

Jobs We Build Around That Evening
Each of these is scheduled off whichever finish hour applies to your address.
- Residential moving: a house in Vernon or Concordia, off the closed roadway, where the only clock is our own at 7 PM
- Apartment moving: a unit above a shop on the corridor, where the stair is counted into the hours before the start time is set
- Office relocation: a storefront, studio or small office on the closed blocks, working to the same six o'clock
- Packing and unpacking: a packer the day before, billed separately, so the morning starts with the cartons already closed
- Emergency moving: a closing or a lease that shifts on short notice, checked against the closure months before we give you a date
What a Move Here Costs
The card below is hourly, and the hour the crew finishes decides which line of it the job lands on. Work after 7 PM Monday through Saturday, and all day Sunday, runs on the evening rate.
(503) 506-4149Movers and truck: Monday–Saturday, 7 AM–7 PM
- 2 movers + truck: $150.35 per hour · 3 movers + truck: $206.75 per hour · 4 movers + truck: $263.15 per hour
- 3-hour minimum · $56.40 per hour for each additional mover or packer
- Evenings after 7 PM Mon–Sat, and Sundays (3-hour minimum): $195.20 / $273.40 / $351.60 per hour
- Holiday rate (3-hour minimum): $230.50 / $325.50 / $420.50 per hour
Packing help is billed the same way, by the hour for each packer, with boxes priced by size. The drive from our Hillsboro yard is part of the hours, billed at the same hourly rate as the crew. A load that drops at two addresses, or leaves something with a charity on the way, is quoted on the call. Payment comes at completion, by card, check, or cash.

Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims
Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.

Planning a Day That Ends Before the Evening Does
On a date that touches the event, the finish time is the fixed point and everything else is arranged behind it.
We count backward from the hour
You give us the hour the truck has to be off the block. We take the rooms you describe, put an hour range against them, add the drive out to you and the drive between your two addresses, and set the start time from that. If the arithmetic does not leave room, we say so on the call and offer the day either side of it.
The night before is where an hour gets saved
Close, tape and label the cartons by room, empty the drawers of anything loose, and clear the path from the door to the street. The first hour of a move is the quickest one, and taping lids is a slow way to spend it. A packer the day before is a separate charge, and it buys that hour back on the morning.
The things that cost minutes
If your door is above a shop on the corridor, the way down is one interior stair and every piece goes single file. That stair is minutes, and minutes are what the start time is built from: an upstairs unit on a closure date starts earlier than a ground-floor one on the same block. An elevator you have to book with a building manager is a second clock on top of the first.

Alberta Arts District Moving Questions
Our move-in date is fixed, and it falls on that Thursday. What then?
Then it is a morning job. We count back from six to set the start time, and we tell you on the call whether your room count fits inside it. If it is tight, we add a mover rather than move the date.
Our old place is off Alberta but the new one is on it. Which end sets the time?
The end you have to finish at. A load coming off the truck on the corridor is the part that has to beat the evening, so the start time gets set by the unload. Give us both addresses when you call and we will say which one is driving the clock.
It is the last Thursday of the month, but not one of the summer months. Does that change our day?
No. Alberta is closed to traffic for Last Thursday in June, July and August only. Every other month of the year the street stays open, and your day gets planned the way any other Thursday would be.
Can the truck wait on a side street and carry things over to the door after six?
No. Once the closure is on, the street belongs to the event for three hours, and a crew is not walking furniture across a closed street. On a closure date the load finishes before six or it moves to another day.
The event ends at nine. Could we just start after that?
You could, but look at what it buys you. We work until 10 PM, so a 9 PM start leaves the crew one working hour, and the 3-hour minimum still applies: one hour of work bills three, at the evening rate on the card above. A closure Thursday is a morning job, or it is another day.
