A Canby move comes with three calls beyond the one to your mover: the senior community's office if you are waiting on a unit, Canby Utility for power and water, and Canby Disposal for whatever is staying behind. Put those in order early, and loading day has a schedule set in advance. The city still carries its old nickname, Oregon's Garden Spot, from farms that grew bulbs, flowers, and nursery stock.
Butterfield Moving is run by one family out of Hillsboro, with a license to move homes and businesses anywhere in Oregon. Patrick Butterfield owns the company and prices each job; his son, Aiden, handles the loads and driving. Canby moves are billed on our standard local rates.
Our trucks travel about 50 minutes to reach Canby, so a crew arrives the next day at the earliest. That lead time is when Patrick sets the crew size, the truck, and an arrival window around your three calls.

Three Canby Calls to Make Before Loading Day
Call 1: The Hope Village office, if that is where you are headed
Hope Village is a 56-acre senior community on S Ivy Street. Its two apartment buildings, Cascade House and The Meadows, each have two floors and one central elevator, and every apartment comes with a patio and a private storage unit. Wait times for an apartment run from six months to three years, so the moving date follows the unit offer. Once the office names a ready date, call us, and we can plan a crew around it. When you move out of a unit, remember that the patio storage unit needs to be emptied too.
Call 2: Canby Utility, for power and water
Within the city limits and annexed areas, electricity and water are supplied by Canby Utility, a customer-owned utility established in 1970 as an independent subdivision of the city. Addresses outside that area are not on its system, so confirm your provider before moving day. Canby Utility requires 24 hours' notice before it starts or stops service, along with the service address, the date, and a forwarding address. If the unload may run past dusk, have service start at the new house a day early, so the crew has lights for placing furniture.
Call 3: Canby Disposal, for what is not coming along
Canby Disposal collects garbage in the city and offers bulk pickup for items such as furniture, mattresses, grills, and appliances. Pickup has to be requested, availability varies by address, and the date needs confirming before anything goes out. Sort the house into three piles before we arrive: pieces for the truck, pieces you will drop at a charity yourself, and pieces for bulk pickup. The crew then loads only what is moving, and the estimate reflects that smaller load.

Canby Roads, Rails, River Crossings and Campus Homes
OR 99E through town
ODOT repaved 1.5 miles of Highway 99E between S Pine Street and SW Berg Parkway, adding bike lanes, new signal detectors and crosswalks, with the major work done in October 2024. For a business or home that fronts the highway, we can load from a side street or a lot, keeping the truck out of the bike lane.
About 30 trains a day through downtown
The Union Pacific mainline runs beside 99E through the center of Canby, with public crossings at Ivy, Grant and Elm. Around 30 trains pass each day. A move from one side of the tracks to the other can meet a train at a crossing, so we can build a few minutes of slack into the timeline for that leg.
The Canby Ferry, with posted hours and limits
The M.J. Lee II crosses the Willamette between Canby and the Wilsonville side from 9 AM to 6 PM. It closes on some holidays and whenever the river reaches 70 feet, carries six autos or 25 tons, and takes cash or checks only. With those hours and limits, a loaded moving truck goes by road instead.
The Molalla River bridge on Knights Bridge Road
Clackamas County completed repairs and seismic upgrades on this bridge in October 2025, removing its old weight restrictions. For addresses out along Knights Bridge Road, a truck can use the bridge like any other crossing.
Single-level cottage homes on the Hope Village campus
Besides its apartments, Hope Village offers two- and three-bedroom cottage homes of 1,205 to 1,685 square feet, each on one level with an attached garage. With no stairs inside, the carry is short, and the garage can hold boxes that will not be unpacked right away while furniture goes to its rooms.

Canby Moves We Would Map Out Ahead of Time
How we'd plan a house near Locust Street Park to a home off SE 13th Avenue
Both addresses are in town, so the short drive leaves nearly all the billed hours for the carry. Packers could box the kitchen and the glassware the afternoon before. At the new house, the beds and couch are set up before anything else, and the boxes are carried into the rooms labeled on them.
How we'd plan a downtown office near Wait Park
A small office can box its own paperwork in advance. Files and monitors travel in their own cartons.
How we'd plan a Canby household headed to Bend
This one is priced by mileage and weight on a written quote, since hourly rates cover local work only. The crew can pack the house on day one and load early on day two. Fragile pieces for a mountain drive, such as a tall floor lamp or a glass tabletop, get their own wrap and a spot against the truck's wall.

How the Work Unfolds on a Canby Move
Addresses, access and the big pieces, then a visit if the house is large
On the first call, Patrick notes the old and new addresses, asks about the stairs and entrances at each, and writes down the largest piece of furniture. A one-bedroom can get its price before you hang up. For a larger house, the visit is free: he looks at the frontage, the garage and any shop or shed, and he checks the pieces that may need to come apart.
Boxes packed by you, by us or both
You can pack every box yourself, leave the kitchen and fragile items to us, or have us pack the entire house. Your own boxes get used, and any of ours left unopened are not charged.
Floors and doorways covered
Before the first dresser moves, floor runners cover the route through the house and jamb guards wrap the doorways.
Padded, secured, and driven to the new door
Pads and straps hold each piece in place on the road. The beds are the first thing the crew reassembles at the new house, and furniture goes to the rooms you point out.
Checked together, then paid
While the truck is still parked, you walk with the crew through the rooms and check the pieces you care about most. Payment is due only when the job is done, and no money changes hands to hold the date.

Canby Moving Questions
What does a move in Canby cost?
A crew of two with the truck bills $150.35 per hour, and a crew of three $206.75; any job carries a 3-hour minimum. Your final figure comes down to the amount of furniture and boxes, the access at both ends, and the drive from our yard.
Can you send a crew to Canby today?
Not the same day. The earliest a crew reaches Canby is the next morning, and an early-day call gives Patrick the best chance of filling it.
How far ahead should we reserve a date?
One to two weeks of notice covers most local moves. Allow longer for a big house or a date in summer. With that much notice, changing the date costs nothing.
Could you hold our furniture until the new house is ready?
No. We do not offer storage. Book a unit with a storage company near Canby, and we can plan the day around its address and gate hours.
We are moving from Canby to Oregon City. Is that a local move?
Yes. A move between Canby and Oregon City, Wilsonville or another nearby city is billed by the hour, with the drive from our yard inside those hours at the same rate. Written mileage-and-weight quotes are for moves across Oregon.
Does the 3-hour minimum change because Canby is farther out?
No. The minimum is the same: 3 hours, as at anywhere else we work locally. The drive to reach you is part of the hours at the same rate as the crew, which is the one thing the distance does change.
Our new house needs flat-pack furniture put together. Can you help?
Yes. Assembly of new flat-pack pieces counts as ordinary crew time on the hourly card. Let us know how many boxes there are so the estimate includes the time.
How many hours does a household move usually take?
It depends on the rooms, the stairs at both ends, and how much is boxed and taped before the crew walks in. Patrick puts an hour range on the estimate for two movers and for three, so you can see whether the bigger crew finishes the house sooner.
We rent out the Canby house we are leaving. What happens to the utility account?
Canby Utility has a Landlord Billing Agreement for this. Once signed, it authorizes the utility to promptly transfer electric or water service at the address from the renter's name to the owner's name upon notification.
What should ride in our own car instead of the truck?
Jewelry, passports and important papers, medications, chargers and anything you could not replace. Keep those with you on moving day, and the truck carries the rest.

Crew Know-How for Canby Homes and Businesses
Planters, pots and garden tools
In the Garden Spot, the yard can be part of the move. We can bundle long-handled tools, stack clay pots with padding between them, and wrap a potting bench like any other table. Empty planters of soil before loading day, and drain hoses and fountains.
Beds, cribs and sectionals taken apart
When a piece has to come apart, the crew takes photos first and puts the hardware in a labeled bag. Interior doors may be lifted off for a tight turn. Wrapping, padding, and reassembly are billed as ordinary crew time.
Suites and storefronts off Sequoia Parkway
A retail or business suite can move after closing or on a weekend. Shelving and fixtures come off the truck first, so the space can be set up before stock is returned.
Cartons, wardrobes and who packs them
Our packers work at $56.40 an hour, and small boxes run $6.30, mediums $7.45, and larges $9.45, with wardrobe boxes at $31.55, so bedroom closets can travel on hangers.
Released Value, Replacement Cost and Claims
Released value at $0.60 per pound is the legal floor, not a plan. Replacement-cost protection is available if you choose to purchase it. We will submit a claim upon request.
